There IS hope!

I'm currently on a bus and two teenage school boys have just given up their seats to a couple of older ladies :-)

I love it when the clocks go back - you can't beat a bonus hour of DIY time :-)

Get in! Another victory of cycle over bus, again by a few yards at the final roundabout :-D

Late breaking news...

I received confirmation late this afternoon that I won the 'Welly Wanging' Competition at Apple Day with a throw of 31 meters :-D Have no fear, I will be updating my CV first thing in the morning and will also be happy to sign any autographs.

Mmmm

Less than 24 hours back in the uk and I'm standing in a queue for Hog Roast at Gressen Hall Apple Day. Now I feel proud to be British :-)

Arriving in the UK

We've just arrived back in the uk after our fantasic rail journey around Mainland Europe and what were we greated by?

Harwich International station has no trains for 1 hour, we had to wait 5 mins in Hoek of Holland. It's dark and the platform has no lights, no working information screens and, oh what's that, there are roof supports but no roof!

We're now on the train, having waited an hour, and some lovely English fellow has thrown his dinner all over the train doors and floor so it looks like someone has thrown up everywhere.

Does this make me proud to be British? Not really :-(

Day 15 - Amsterdam

Well alas all good things have to come to an end :-(

We arrived in Amsterdam yesterday and had a lovely day wondering around, dodging bicycles, but today we are heading home. Only 4 more trains, a boat and taxi to go!

Ooooooo Vienna!

We're just off out for dinner and then to the ballet don't you know. Good fun these holidays :-D

Slovenian Breakfast

A wide variety of food stuffs, the most random of which was 'Boiled Chicken Hot Dog'.

Anyway, we're off to find the local market.

Day 8 - Ljubljana

We arrived in Ljubljana late last night and so although I can't comment on how it is by day, it is certainly very beautiful by night.

Somehow we've been upgraded again, this time to an apartment, with lounge, study, bedroom and even a little kitchen area :-D

Anyway, I've just been for a swim...

...and so I need to dry off and go and get some exploring fuel - I wonder what you have for breakfast in Slovenia?

Thank you Montebello Splendid (Day 5, Florence)

You just can't beat a free upgrade :-)

I sometimes wonder how one would manage without a suite ;-)

Mainland Europe, here we come!

Ellen and I are just about to set off on our European boat and rail adventure. Check out our route :-D

Random experience of the week No. 2

Trying to pay a cheque into my bank from the Namibian VAT office - as a result of buying Ellen a Namibian diamond :-)

The bank staff were rather confused but very amused as I tried to explain how I got the cheque in my new squeeky, cold influenced, voice.

You've got to laugh

You come home to find you're locked out!

You can't get in because the plasterers have left the key in the lock on the inside.

You decide to 'phone a friend' to ask him if he has a key to the other door but at this point you realise your cold has escalated somewhat and you've all but lost your voice so he can hardly hear you!

He has a key but it's an hour away!

Ah-ha! The plasterers have left a window open and you have a ladder in the garage :-)

The garage is locked :-(

But as it turns out the garage door can be forced open!

Bish bosh, like a slightly clumsy cat burglar, you're in :-D

It has begun...

The renovation of our new house has finally moved inside. Having spent weekend after weekend removing 'stuff' from the garden this weekend we started removing 'stuff' from the house.

The fireplace and stripey wallpaper were first to go :-)
